Pretty as a picture

Still no quilting going on in my neck of the woods, but I do have a few more old photos to share.

A while back, I wrote this post, describing my grandmother.  Here are a few photos of her that we found while packing up my parents house as they prepare for their move.

This is an undated photo of my grandmother and her sister.  We're guessing it was about 1912 when this was taken.   Their style of dress would have fit into the movie "Titanic", don't you think?

The date on this photo says "1918", which would make my grandmother a young lady of 20 years old.

This is a photo of my grandmother's sister with her 2 friends.  I love the  hats and the round eyeglasses.  Ready for a day at the beach, ladies?

Old photos

One  reason that I haven't been quilting/blogging  lately is that I have been spending  time helping my parents downsize their home.  They are preparing to move into a retirement community, and their new living space is smaller than what they have now, so there are lots of decisions to be made about what to keep and what not to keep.

In going through their items that were in storage, we came across some old photos.  We put them aside until the end of the day when we could sit together and look at them, trying to place names with the faces.

One picture surfaced that I was really pleased to find.  It shows my mom,  her grandmother and a little cousin sitting together on a QUILT!  I never knew that their was anyone else in my family that had quilted before me, and now I see that there was at least one.  I was so happy to find the photo, and yet the questions it raised about who made it were perplexing.  How I would love to know more about it.  I can't even really make out a pattern.

I'm going to have to frame this little photo, and put it in my sewing room.  What a fun piece of a puzzle that won't likely every be solved.

When does a puppy become a dog?

Dog birthday_001

According to the best estimates, Toby was born on New Year’s Day 2009, so the new year meant that he’s now a year old.  (Don’t tell Toby, but we let him think that the fireworks and celebrations that we watched on TV were all for him. )

Although there is lots of snow on the ground, it doesn’t stop Toby from enjoying a good game of Fetch.  In fact, it means there’s an added bonus of digging in the snow for the ball.

Doesn’t this photo make you think that Toby might be part Siberian Husky?

Hey Toby!  How would you like to race across the snow as part of a team of sled dogs?

No, I didn’t think so.
